The mission of the Medical Society, consistent with others in the state, was (and is) to ensure access to quality health care for all residents, to share in the expertise of each member, and to present a voice in the legislative arena. The organization is dedicated to serving the physicians and the people of Charlotte County, existing to promote excellence in all aspects of medical care.
In the early days of the 1950s, there were only three practicing physicians in Charlotte County, and another on Boca Grande. They jointly traveled to Fort Myers each month to share in communicating with physicians from Lee, Collier and DeSoto counties – which is why this group was called the Four County Medical Society.
Then in 1959 – with several other physicians locating in Charlotte County – it made sense to establish the Charlotte County Medical Society, a professional membership organization that has grown from 12 to nearly 200 physicians. Member physicians, including Doctors of Medicine, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine and Doctors of Podiatric Medicine, whose credentials meet CCMS prerequisites, are dedicated to providing the highest quality of medical care with integrity and compassion.
